UV Masterbatch for Polyolefins & Engineering Plastics

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation occupies the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum between X-rays and visible light, ranging from approximately 40 to 400 nanometers. While the sun is the primary natural source of UV radiation, artificial sources include tanning beds, black lights, curing and germicidal lamps, mercury vapor and halogen lights, high-intensity discharge lamps, as well as fluorescent and incandescent lighting.

Exposure to UV radiation can significantly degrade polymer properties. When plastic products are subjected to direct or indirect sunlight, they may experience surface chalking due to polymer oxidation, loss of mechanical strength, and embrittlement, ultimately rendering them unfit for their intended use. UV light also accelerates the fading of colorants used in plastics.
